The WowWee Roboraptor Robotic Dinosaur is a bit different from the other toys featured here. It could just as easily be described as a toy made from adults just as much as kids (when I say adults, I’d say mostly men – it’s a bit of a boys toy in fact). It has an artificial intelligence element about it that makes it seemingly more intelligent than the other remote control interactive dinosaurs on the market. It also has a metallic look to it.

WowWee make robotic toys. They make robotic animals, humans and in this case dinosaurs. The Roboraptor is one of their more popular items and is based on the raptor dinosaur that you might remember from the Jurassic Park movies.

The idea behind robots as opposed to simple toys is that they try to look realistic to the creature or thing they are simulating. In the case of the RoboRaptor, much attention has been devoted to the biomorphic motions or the way that is moves.

It moves on the two hind legs and this action is smooth and realistic looking. You can set to robot dinosaur to move n 3 modes – walking, running and on the hunt for food walk. It’s great to watch it on the prowl for food – quite menacing looking.

The robot has sensory devices in the tail, chin and tongue. This allows it to react when things are in it way and also respond when you put things in it’s mouth or it tries to bite something. For instance, it can play pulling games with you over a small object.

You will be amazed by the realistic movement of the interactive dinosaur. Apart from the accurate looking legs, it will also flick and waggle it’s tail when moving or in a stationary position. It will also wave it’s neck and head around.

It can even respond and recognize where sound is coming from. This is pretty cool, as it will turn it’s head, seemingly as if looking at whatever is making the sound. Maybe your pet dog or other real life animal. This will have your real life pets just a little bit curious and slightly apprehensive about this strange looking silver creature.

Another aspect of the robot that makes it seem more realistic is that it will wake up (read be switched on  or reactivated from stand by mode) in a different mood. It can be happy, angry and cautious. It mood will change as you do more things with it.

The dinosaur toy is recommended for people 8 years and older. It is 32 inches from snout to tail and stands 9 inches tall. You will need 6 “AA” batteries (not included) and 3 “AAA” batteries for the remote (not included).
