Melissa & Doug T-Rex Dinosaur Plush – details and description
Coming to be forty four inches tall from head to claw, twenty four inches long from nose to tail, and eleven inches wide from side to side, it is pretty clear to see that the T-Rex is one huge interactive dinosaur toy. Although colossal, this stuffed toy is anything but scary.
This T-Rex comes in bright and vivid hues of greens, blues, and yellows and has burgundy stripes running down his spines and the same burgundy colored spots splattered all around all made of the finest and softest fabric. Aside from the size, that is probably one of the reasons kids are so attracted to it.
Also, since only the highest quality materials were used in making this prehistoric kiddie treat, even if it’s mouth is wide open and his teeth are all out, your child won’t even feel the slightest prick at all. So parents can be one hundred percent worry free.
The Melissa & Doug T-Rex Dinosaur Plush weighs much less than two pounds so your child won’t have a hard time dragging him around- as he probably will. Also, this toy is soft and cuddly- perfect for hugging or interacting with, but it is not too soft. This allows the posable legs and tail to be strong enough so that the toy can actually stand on its own. It doesn’t need any kind of support whatsoever.
Recommended for kids 2 years and up, this toy promises to bring fun through out your child’s growing years whether to hug at night, to wrestle with during play time, or even to just lug around like his best friend.
Unlike other toys that kids eventually get sick of and that you end up either storing away or passing on to someone else, stuffed toys are usually kept over the years, some even well into their adulthood. The Melissa & Doug T-Rex Dinosaur Plush is no exception.
Learning Curve Dinosaur Train Toys – Fun Way To Learn About Dinosaurs For Pre-school Kids
Dinosaur Train is a popular kids show on the PBS network. It is made by the Jim Henson company that specialize in educational type shows for preschool kids and even older children.

Dinosaur train is an animated series that features a T-Rex dinosaur that is the same age as the audience for the show – a pre-schooler – as the main character. He tours around the dinosaur world on a train and in the process learns everything about dinosaurs. Learning curve have created many of the main characters, including the train and the T-Rex (called Buddy) so that kids can get more involved and make up their own scenarios.
More on the Learning Curve Dinosaur Train Characters
Kids are fascinated by dinosaurs whether it be movies like Jurassic Park or docudramas like Walking with Dinosaurs. They seem to be intrigued by the weird looking animals and amazed at the size of the creatures. The Dinosaur Train is a slightly more cartoon like experience but still teaches children about the creatures and the times in which they lived.
The Learning Curve toys are faithful recreations of all the characters that are in the animated series. So you have the baby T-Rex called Buddy. He looks kind of goofy and kind of cute. Not menacing like a real Tyrannosaurus Rex.
He is an interactive Dinosaur toy in a number of ways. The first thing about him is that you can press his tummy and he will talk to you about all sorts of facts about the Dinosaurs and the train. He can also walk and chomp of things with is jaws. He can recognize other characters in the train and talk to them.
Other important characters are Tiny who is Buddy’s sister. She is actually a Pteranodon (flying Dinosaur) as Buddy was adopted by a Pteranodon family. She also has SmartTalk technology which allows her to recognize other characters and interact with them. She can do the same sort of things as Buddy when you press her. She also flaps her wings.
There are heaps of characters in the series including Boris and Ned. They are older dinosaurs – Boris is a adult Tyrannosaurus Rex and Ned is a teenage Brachiosaurus. They are much large than the baby characters. Boris is 12 inches tall and 21 inches from nose to tail. This is quite a big toy for kids around 3 years of age.
Like the baby characters, Boris and Ned are interactive and can do all sorts of different things depending on where you touch them. Boris can open his mouth and roar. He can walk (or rather stomp) around. He can interact with the other characters.
The final piece you might need to keep the kids happy is the train itself. You can place the dinos in the train and the kids can invent new landscapes and adventures for them to embark on. What’s more they will learn all about Dinosaurs at the same time.
Playskool Monty T-Rex – One Of Kota’s Pals
Monty T-Rex is pals with Kota. You remember Kota don’t you ? He’s the cute baby Triceratops that kids can ride on top of. He roars and moves his head from side to side. Kota was primarily aimed a younger kids and toddlers. Monty T-Rex is aimed at older kids and is more for hands on playing rather than as a ride on toy.

More on the Playskool Monty T-Rex
So Monty T-Rex is a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the king of the Dinosaurs. This type of dinosaur is probably the most popular dinosaur for us humans. He always gets a run out in movies, even if he is not the main character. Do you remember the T-Rex getting battered by King Kong in the movie from a while back. And I bet you remember the thunderous footsteps that indicated it’s presence in the first Jurassic park movie. He is the most feared and recognizable dinosaur of them all.
Consequently Monty T-Rex is in good company. There are all sort of interactive dinosaur toys that a are modeled on the T-Rex.
With regards to Monty, he is made of a plush fabric that you could describe as a mottled burgundy color. The top of the head, the arms, legs and tip of the tail are a similar color but they are made of a soft plastic. No doubt this is to protect these parts from wear and tear as they are the main moving parts of this interactive dinosaur toy.
The toy is interactive in a few ways. The best bit for kids is that it will roar back at you if you roar at it. You are throwing down a challenge and Monty is not for backing down. He will seemingly look you straight in the eyes are blast a roar back in your direction. His jaws will open and close as he trumpets this roar back at you.
If you touch his tail, it will waggle back and forth. This tail was actually used a weapon by the real life T-Rex and Monty can use his to just as much devastating effect – on a row or cups or a ball or something like that.
If you touch his back this will cause the toy to move forward. Touch his head and his jaws will chomp up and down.
Although this is nowhere near the size of the Kota toy, it is not really made for the same purpose. Monty is approximately 14 inches high. Kids will love to affect how he reacts and what he does. He is aimed at kids from around 3 to 6 years of age. You will require 4 C types batteries to use the toy and they are included with the purchase.
WowWee Roboraptor Robotic Dinosaur
The WowWee Roboraptor Robotic Dinosaur is a bit different from the other toys featured here. It could just as easily be described as a toy made from adults just as much as kids (when I say adults, I’d say mostly men – it’s a bit of a boys toy in fact). It has an artificial intelligence element about it that makes it seemingly more intelligent than the other remote control interactive dinosaurs on the market. It also has a metallic look to it.

More on the WowWee Roboraptor Robotic Dinosaur
WowWee make robotic toys. They make robotic animals, humans and in this case dinosaurs. The Roboraptor is one of their more popular items and is based on the raptor dinosaur that you might remember from the Jurassic Park movies.
The idea behind robots as opposed to simple toys is that they try to look realistic to the creature or thing they are simulating. In the case of the RoboRaptor, much attention has been devoted to the biomorphic motions or the way that is moves.
It moves on the two hind legs and this action is smooth and realistic looking. You can set to robot dinosaur to move n 3 modes – walking, running and on the hunt for food walk. It’s great to watch it on the prowl for food – quite menacing looking.
The robot has sensory devices in the tail, chin and tongue. This allows it to react when things are in it way and also respond when you put things in it’s mouth or it tries to bite something. For instance, it can play pulling games with you over a small object.
You will be amazed by the realistic movement of the interactive dinosaur. Apart from the accurate looking legs, it will also flick and waggle it’s tail when moving or in a stationary position. It will also wave it’s neck and head around.
It can even respond and recognize where sound is coming from. This is pretty cool, as it will turn it’s head, seemingly as if looking at whatever is making the sound. Maybe your pet dog or other real life animal. This will have your real life pets just a little bit curious and slightly apprehensive about this strange looking silver creature.
Another aspect of the robot that makes it seem more realistic is that it will wake up (read be switched on or reactivated from stand by mode) in a different mood. It can be happy, angry and cautious. It mood will change as you do more things with it.
The dinosaur toy is recommended for people 8 years and older. It is 32 inches from snout to tail and stands 9 inches tall. You will need 6 “AA” batteries (not included) and 3 “AAA” batteries for the remote (not included).

Spike The Red Dinosaur – Fisher Price Interactive Dinosaur Toy
Spike the Red Dinosaur has a cousin that goes by the same name and looks very similar, except that he is green in color. The truth is that this is the same toy but for kids that prefer the red coloring rather than the green. It is a remote controlled interactive toy for young children. They will love to control Spike and make him do the things a dinosaur likes to do.

More on Spike The Red Dinosaur
Spike is made by Fisher-Price, a leading toy maker for younger kids and with a strong emphasis on learning toys. Spike is not so much a learning toy but more a fun item to play with. He may also encourage children to learn more about dinosaurs in the long run too.
He is supposed to be a Brontosaurus type of dinosaur. This is one of the more famous or recognizable dinosaurs that you see in films. It was also one of the biggest after the Diplodocus and was constantly being attacked by the T-Rex if you believe all the movies.
Spike is quite a clever dinosaur. He is controlled via a remote control unit that looks like a piece of prehistoric rock. On the rock are 6 buttons that have images on them to indicate what each button will do. This means Spike can do 6 things (or you can control him to do 6 things). These are :
Moving or walking forwards,
Standing on hind legs (he waggles his tail and roars when he does this),
Rotating the long neck (lights light up when this happens),
Throw a boulder (supplied plastic boulder looking object),
Open and close his mouth,
And a mystery button which will make him do any or a combination of these actions.
Part of the fun for little kids will be combining the actions to make the interactive dinosaur toy do more than appear possible. Picking up a stone is one instance of this. This is a skill that the child will have to develop through repeated practice. This ensures they will return to the toy keen to master new movements.
The toy is also quite big. The dimensions are 5.7 x 16.1 x 29.9 inches which means if it is standing on it hind legs it is above the waist of the average sized 5 year old. Kids will be impressed with the size and want to master the controls. There is also an option to set the dinosaur actions to music or to the more realistic grunting, groaning and roaring that you might expect of such an animal.
Spike the Red Dinosaur or his Green colored counterpart would make a great gift idea or present for most kids that are going through their Dinosaur phase.
Cruncher Prehistoric Pets Interactive Dinosaur – Teach Him To Dance, Teach Him To Sing, Teach Him To Chomp On A Pterodactyl Carcass !
The Cruncher Prehistoric Pets Interactive Dinosaur is a cool interactive dinosaur toy. It’s not the most accurate looking model but it comes with a range of actions and behaviors plus you can also teach it new things to do. This teaching it new things is the interactive part of it and, for me, is what will keep kids coming back to play with the toy over and over again.

More on the Cruncher Prehistoric Pets Interactive Dinosaur
So the Cruncher Prehistoric Pets Interactive Dinosaur toy looks like a cross between a T-Rex and a Dimetrodon. The head and powerful jaws are just what you would expect of Tyrannosaurus Rex, the king of the Dinosaurs but it looks like he moves on four legs and has a crested sail back which is more similar to the Dimetrodon.
Oh…he also has a collar, which as far as I know neither the T-Rex or the Dimetrodon ever wore. I guess the collar is more to suggest that he is a pet and wants an owner to teach him a few tricks. He even speaks and you can teach him to say various things. You can also get him to do various actions too. This is great fun and will ensure that children continue to play with him long after he first arrives.
Out of the box, he will already do lots of things. He especially likes to roar and snap his jaws up and down. The collar is actually used to control the toy. You set it to one of the various modes. The modes include a fetch option. A learn option where he can learn new words and actions. There is also a sing and dance option.
As you can see, he is not your average dinosaur and he also talks. He has a comical type of voice which enhances the cartoon like image of the character.
Also his legs move. If you is in an upright position his front legs will grapple. If you is on all fours he will scuttle across the floor. There are actually wheels on the belly of the toy that move in a synchronized fashion with his legs so that he looks like he is moving on his feet.
The toy also has a soft plastic or rubber neck that allows the head to move from side to side as he snaps his jaws. This looks really good and the soft plastic neck looks like it is skin really moving as the head moves. A supplied fish bones toy can be given to the toy and he will chomp on it and grunt as if he is enjoying a fine meal.
This toy is a great gift idea for kids around 6 years and older that are fascinated by dinosaurs, and at that age most kids are. It requires Five C batteries.

Kota The Interactive Dinosaur Toy For Toddlers
KOTA is a Triceratops Dinosaur. After the T-Rex, the triceratops is probably the most recognizable dinosaur there is (or was). The name is derived from the three horns and frill on the head. It was a herbivore and has many physical similarities to the modern day Rhino.
It is believed to have lived at the same time of the Tyrannosaurus, which is often depicted as preying on the triceratops. In many movies that involve dinosaurs, an always dramatic scene is the confrontation between these two species. Whether scenes like this really took place is pure speculation but it certainly sparks the imagination, especially of children, who seem to love dinosaurs and are fascinated by these outlandish looking monsters.
Kota is a baby triceratops made by Playskool. He is slightly different from the other robotic dinosaurs listed here in that he is really aimed at toddlers and young children. He does not have the complexity of Pleo or the hijinks of D-Rex.
He is not a pet that needs to be cared for like the other interactive dinosaur toys but will be heaps of fun for toddlers and their parents. He stands at around 3 feet high and allows toddlers up to 60 pounds to ride on his back.
When a toddler rides on his back he will emit noises that a baby triceratops might have made. There is also an option to play music instead of the noises. These are dinosaur songs that your child can rock to as he/she rides Kota. He will also belch or burp from time to time, which is sure to have the whole family in hysterics. In fact, you could think of Kota as a very sophisticated and modern kind of rocking horse.
For instance, he has numerous touch sensors on his body that make him respond when your infant touches him. If you rub his belly he will rock up and down and chuckle (in triceratops language of course). He will respond to sounds made by humans. He will pretend to munch on a leaf if it is placed near his mouth. The animatronics inside Kota ensure that his actions look realistic, this includes the blinking of some large and rather cute eyes, waggling of the tail and rocking of the head.
His skin is a olive green, furry texture that is soft enough for children to play with and sit on. There is a hidden handle on the neck of the dinosaur so that a child can hold on when the toy is rocking.
Kids will really engage with the size of this toy. His size and expressive gestures will set him apart from other toys that are just played with. With Kota they will interactive with him like they might with a real life baby animal.
Kota Specifications.
Dinosaur dimensions : 21″L x 44″W x 28″H.
Requires six “D” batteries, which are not included.
Kota has to be put together when first received. There is a detailed and simple to follow manual on how to do this. A Philips head screwdriver is all that is needs to put him together.
Kota is made by Playskool.
Meet Pleo the Camarasaurus – He’s One Sophisticated Little Interactive Dinosaur Toy
Pleo is a replica of the herbivorous Camarasaurus dinosaur that lived in the late Jurassic Period. Camarasaurus tended to grow to around 60 feet in length. Pleo is a one week old baby Camarasaurus so he is a lot smaller. And, as sad as it seems, he appears to be orphaned and looking for a good home. Maybe his mom got snaffled by an Allosaurus or some other nasty predator. Can you provide him with a place to stay ?
Pleo is a robotic dinosaur. He is a completely interactive dinosaur toy, however once you have interacted with him a little you will understand that he is a bit more than a toy. He is your very own dinopet.
To this extent he will appear quite autonomous. He will move around of his own accord. He will sense objects in front of him and sniff them. If they are movable he might even nudge them with his snout. If you give him a leaf he will pretend to eat it. He will also be able to track moving objects. So he will be able to follow you or even a real pet (Watching the interaction between Pleo and your pet cat or dog is hilarious). He also responds to touching and will make different noises depending on how you hold him. You can stroke him under the chin or belly and he will move in different ways and make different sounds. If you hold him in your arms, his body shape will adapt to how you are holding him.
There are many cute touches too. For instance, Pleo needs a NiMH battery to operate. If this battery is runing low, the the dinosaur will start acting drowsy and may even fall to sleep. Time to recharge the battery. He also has microphones at the front and back and can make some pleasant and chuckle inducing sounds from front and rear based on what he is doing.
Pleo has what is referred to as a Life Operating system platform of tools, technologies and AI (artificial intelligence) according the Ugobe, the makers of the interactive dinosaur. This allows him to grow based on how he is treated and the experiences he has. It can also alter his “mood” from playful and happy to sombre and sad. Through the range of experiences you give the dinosaur, you can create a unique little “personality”.
Pleo displays a huge range of gestures and vocalizations based on influences that are interpreted by Ugobe’s Life OS platform of tools, technologies and AI (artificial intelligence). As your treatment of the little dinosaur can influence how he acts, there are a number of training tips and download enhancements that can be taken from www.pleoworld.com. There are various USB ports on the dinosaur so that you can simply upload any software updates.
Pleo’s sensory system is made up of 40 devices that enable him to see, sense, touch and detect objects in order to move autonomously and explore his environment without requiring any remote control. He has a color camera with a white-light sensor that allows him to detect bright light from dark, see colors, detect motion, track a moving object, and perceive objects in front of him.
He has binaural microphones on each side of his head so that he can detect where a sound is coming from. He can also detect the loudness of the sound so as to get an idea of the distance that the object creating the sound might make.
The dinosaur has a skin that is constructed of a custom-formulated, soft thermoplastic material that’s painted with a realistic and lifelike coloration. This gives a realistic look and feel to the dinosaur.
Pleo has around 100 custom-designed gears, and 14 motors for realistic and articulated movement. Each motor has a force feedback sensor that makes them sensitive to forceful grabs at the dinosaur’s legs, neck, tail and torso, causing him to shut down during trauma to avoid internal damage.
For instance, Pleo will actually react to being hurt. He may affect a limp which you can gradually reduce if you give him a bit of care and attention.
Ugobe Pleo Dinosaur Specifications
Pleo has two 32-bit microprocessors for central and image processing, and four 8-bit sub-processors for motor control.
Pleo has multiple built-in data ports, including a mini USB port for online downloads, an SD card slot for add-ons, and the infrared transceiver that allows Pleo-to-Pleo communications.
Pleo is powered by an internal, rechargeable NiMH battery that takes about four hours to charge and provides approximately an hour of active life.
Ugobe Pleo comes in various shades of green.
He weighs 3.5 pounds, and stands about 7.5 inches high and 21 inches long when on all fours.
There is a 90-day warranty. He is recommended for use indoors only.
He is recommended for children 8 years an up. Adults will like him too. He is a perfect replacement for a live pet, if you are allergic to such animals or are not in a position to keep a real live pet.
