Kota The Interactive Dinosaur Toy For Toddlers
KOTA is a Triceratops Dinosaur. After the T-Rex, the triceratops is probably the most recognizable dinosaur there is (or was). The name is derived from the three horns and frill on the head. It was a herbivore and has many physical similarities to the modern day Rhino.
It is believed to have lived at the same time of the Tyrannosaurus, which is often depicted as preying on the triceratops. In many movies that involve dinosaurs, an always dramatic scene is the confrontation between these two species. Whether scenes like this really took place is pure speculation but it certainly sparks the imagination, especially of children, who seem to love dinosaurs and are fascinated by these outlandish looking monsters.
Kota is a baby triceratops made by Playskool. He is slightly different from the other robotic dinosaurs listed here in that he is really aimed at toddlers and young children. He does not have the complexity of Pleo or the hijinks of D-Rex.
He is not a pet that needs to be cared for like the other interactive dinosaur toys but will be heaps of fun for toddlers and their parents. He stands at around 3 feet high and allows toddlers up to 60 pounds to ride on his back.
When a toddler rides on his back he will emit noises that a baby triceratops might have made. There is also an option to play music instead of the noises. These are dinosaur songs that your child can rock to as he/she rides Kota. He will also belch or burp from time to time, which is sure to have the whole family in hysterics. In fact, you could think of Kota as a very sophisticated and modern kind of rocking horse.
For instance, he has numerous touch sensors on his body that make him respond when your infant touches him. If you rub his belly he will rock up and down and chuckle (in triceratops language of course). He will respond to sounds made by humans. He will pretend to munch on a leaf if it is placed near his mouth. The animatronics inside Kota ensure that his actions look realistic, this includes the blinking of some large and rather cute eyes, waggling of the tail and rocking of the head.
His skin is a olive green, furry texture that is soft enough for children to play with and sit on. There is a hidden handle on the neck of the dinosaur so that a child can hold on when the toy is rocking.
Kids will really engage with the size of this toy. His size and expressive gestures will set him apart from other toys that are just played with. With Kota they will interactive with him like they might with a real life baby animal.

Meet Pleo the Camarasaurus – He’s One Sophisticated Little Interactive Dinosaur Toy
Pleo is a replica of the herbivorous Camarasaurus dinosaur that lived in the late Jurassic Period. Camarasaurus tended to grow to around 60 feet in length. Pleo is a one week old baby Camarasaurus so he is a lot smaller. And, as sad as it seems, he appears to be orphaned and looking for a good home. Maybe his mom got snaffled by an Allosaurus or some other nasty predator. Can you provide him with a place to stay ?
Pleo is a robotic dinosaur. He is a completely interactive dinosaur toy, however once you have interacted with him a little you will understand that he is a bit more than a toy. He is your very own dinopet.
To this extent he will appear quite autonomous. He will move around of his own accord. He will sense objects in front of him and sniff them. If they are movable he might even nudge them with his snout. If you give him a leaf he will pretend to eat it. He will also be able to track moving objects. So he will be able to follow you or even a real pet (Watching the interaction between Pleo and your pet cat or dog is hilarious). He also responds to touching and will make different noises depending on how you hold him. You can stroke him under the chin or belly and he will move in different ways and make different sounds. If you hold him in your arms, his body shape will adapt to how you are holding him.
There are many cute touches too. For instance, Pleo needs a NiMH battery to operate. If this battery is runing low, the the dinosaur will start acting drowsy and may even fall to sleep. Time to recharge the battery. He also has microphones at the front and back and can make some pleasant and chuckle inducing sounds from front and rear based on what he is doing.
Pleo has what is referred to as a Life Operating system platform of tools, technologies and AI (artificial intelligence) according the Ugobe, the makers of the interactive dinosaur. This allows him to grow based on how he is treated and the experiences he has. It can also alter his “mood” from playful and happy to sombre and sad. Through the range of experiences you give the dinosaur, you can create a unique little “personality”.
Pleo displays a huge range of gestures and vocalizations based on influences that are interpreted by Ugobe’s Life OS platform of tools, technologies and AI (artificial intelligence). As your treatment of the little dinosaur can influence how he acts, there are a number of training tips and download enhancements that can be taken from www.pleoworld.com. There are various USB ports on the dinosaur so that you can simply upload any software updates.
Pleo’s sensory system is made up of 40 devices that enable him to see, sense, touch and detect objects in order to move autonomously and explore his environment without requiring any remote control. He has a color camera with a white-light sensor that allows him to detect bright light from dark, see colors, detect motion, track a moving object, and perceive objects in front of him.
He has binaural microphones on each side of his head so that he can detect where a sound is coming from. He can also detect the loudness of the sound so as to get an idea of the distance that the object creating the sound might make.
The dinosaur has a skin that is constructed of a custom-formulated, soft thermoplastic material that’s painted with a realistic and lifelike coloration. This gives a realistic look and feel to the dinosaur.
Pleo has around 100 custom-designed gears, and 14 motors for realistic and articulated movement. Each motor has a force feedback sensor that makes them sensitive to forceful grabs at the dinosaur’s legs, neck, tail and torso, causing him to shut down during trauma to avoid internal damage.
For instance, Pleo will actually react to being hurt. He may affect a limp which you can gradually reduce if you give him a bit of care and attention.
Ugobe Pleo Dinosaur Specifications
Pleo has two 32-bit microprocessors for central and image processing, and four 8-bit sub-processors for motor control.
Pleo has multiple built-in data ports, including a mini USB port for online downloads, an SD card slot for add-ons, and the infrared transceiver that allows Pleo-to-Pleo communications.
Pleo is powered by an internal, rechargeable NiMH battery that takes about four hours to charge and provides approximately an hour of active life.
Ugobe Pleo comes in various shades of green.
He weighs 3.5 pounds, and stands about 7.5 inches high and 21 inches long when on all fours.
There is a 90-day warranty. He is recommended for use indoors only.
He is recommended for children 8 years an up. Adults will like him too. He is a perfect replacement for a live pet, if you are allergic to such animals or are not in a position to keep a real live pet.
